Fight Workshops and Choreography

Safe and affordable tuition for both professionals and amateurs alike. Workshops can be tailor-made to your exact needs. From a 2 hour class to a 20 week certification course, SWORDPLAY will help you explore all aspects of stage combat. Perfect for stage schools, secondary schools, universities, theatre companies and individual actors.

Stage Combat is an incredibly important skill to learn for those interested in the Performing Arts. It improves imagination and concentration, teaches communication and control, increases physical attributes, and is also great fun. It is an ideal device to use when exploring many texts and plays, and SWORDPLAY often runs workshops as part of a conflict resolution or anti-bullying campaign. For all amateur and professional actors it is an extremely important and very marketable skill to possess!

Tailor Made Workshops are available for:

professional and amateur actors: distinguish yourself from the competition and increase your marketability by adding stage combat onto your CV;

theatre venues and theatre companies: SWORDPLAY will run fight rehearsals and create choreography for any theatrical performance, allowing your actors to create safe and exciting fights night after night;

drama schools and stage schools: tailor-made packages for your budding actors;

secondary schools: Workshops have been created using advice from the DFES and following 'visions of an art college' guidance. SWORDPLAY will create a tailor-made workshop focused on the dramatic action of any text or play that your students are currently studying. Alternatively just book an Introduction To Stage Combat workshop. SWORDPLAY can also choreograph fight scenes for school plays.

Workshops are tailor-made to ensure the maximum benefit can be achieved. Sample Workshops include:

Film Fights: A Workshop based on the movie theme of your choice; explore and recreate fight scenes from action adventures such as the Bond films, Bourne films, 'Pirates of The Caribbean' and 'Lord of the Rings'.

Unarmed Fights: This workshop will teach you how to punch, kick, strangle, fall, head butt,hair pull and much more, at all times safely and under expert tuition.

Shakespeare: Shakespeare was caught in a public affray, sword in hand, Marlow was a notorious duelist, Johnson killed one of his actors in a duel. With so much fighting in the streets and taverns Shakespeare's plays are full of references to swords and swordfighting. Explore Shakespeare's characters and Elizabethan society by creating exciting fight choreography.

Swashbuckling: A workshop full of swashbuckling action! Using broadswords and bucklers, quarterstaffs and single rapiers, learn how to be a swaggering swordsman yourself, cut, thrust, and parry!

Firearms: Taught by Professional Firearms Trainers this workshop will teach you the basics of safe loading and unloading, handling, stances, tactical communication and stripping and assembling. Then move on to scenario based drills and of course the chance to fire a Blank firing pistol.

Breakables: Create your own scenes using breakable glass bottles, glasses ashtrays and much more!

Certification Courses: Train for your SWORDPLAY combat qualification. SWORDPLAY provide certification for numerous stage schools , exclusively for a number of London agents and casting directors, for National Drama, LONSAS, and will be recognised by any casting organisation or employer.

Cost: workshops cost £300 per day. Call or email for prices for shorter workshops.
